Anja Kjær

Anja Kjær graduated from Danmarks Designskole, Glass & Ceramics programme, in 1983. She has been creating unique glass designs for 25 years now, working for herself. A sure sense of bold, cheerful colours and classic lines gives that special Anja Kjær touch which means her creations are known and loved far beyond the borders of Denmark.

Her portfolio is extensive and takes in 18 years as a designer for Holmegaard and a whole raft of international exhibitions. The City of Copenhagen commissioned her to design a glassware range as a gift to the Royal couple on the occasion of their Silver wedding anniversary. The result was the beautiful Royal Silver, which has graced the table at official engagements in the Royal Household ever since.

Anja Kjær’s designs are represented in permanent collections at museums from Denmark to New York City. In 2010, she created the Viva vase range for Rosendahl.

Viva – a brilliant array of colours
Anja Kjær took the inspiration for the range from her years of fascination for and love of colours and contrasting edges. Her objective was to create a vase in a classic shape that will grace any home. Simple and practical, in a calm design – which allows the colours to come to the fore. Anja Kjær has this to say about colours:

“Looking at colours that go together and are in harmony makes you feel happy. The colours are carefully selected so that you can put several vases together and mix and match the style. At the same time, the two colours affect each other greatly, because the contrasting edge changes the base colour significantly – which is why it’s important for these to bring out the best in each other.”

The Viva range has its very own story; about a rich array of colours, about daring to give your home a style of its own. But above all, these vases are intended to add humour – Anja Kjær wants the colours to spread joy: whether the vases are filled with nature’s own injection of vitamins or standing as brilliant symbols of joy, even without flowers.
