GRAPHIC CHRISTMAS GLAMOUR
ZARAH VOIGT’S CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS
Opening the lid of the Christmas tree box is like opening a treasure chest. Often we find a tangle of gold, silver and tinsel, and even those who are more into minimalist décor get tempted when Christmas decoration has a graphic style and modern idiom. That is precisely what characterises Zarah Voigt’s Christmas designs.
As a theatre designer, jewellery designer and daughter of the legendary Danish multi-artist, Jean Voigt , Zarah Voigt is used to being surrounded by precious metals, voluminous fabrics and magnificent beauty every day. Nonetheless, like most other people, she sees Christmas as the time of year when everything is just that bit more lavish, sensuous and joyful.
Her work on the Christmas collection, Karen Blixen’s Christmas was a perfect opportunity to celebrate the mythology and magic surrounding the famous Baroness, and a chance to delve into her memories of childhood Christmas. Every year, Zarah would make paper decorations with her father, who had a penchant for white, cut ice crystals. Drawing inspiration from those, Zarah Voigt came up with the motif for her own metallic Christmas decoration.
