Tips for washing new towels

You just received or bought a brand new towel, and you’re looking forward to using it for the first time. However, it is a good idea to soak the towel in cold water for 24 hours before you wash it. When the towel is soaked, it will open the cotton fibres, and this makes the absorbency better, so that the towel can dry you better. Another advantage of soaking them is that any excess colour will disappear, and thereafter you won't have to worry about your new towel discolouring any of your other textiles. However, you should still always wash your towel with similar colours. The next day you can wash it in the washing machine.

After washing the towel, it is best to dry it in the tumble dryer immediately to prevent it from getting sour and musty inside the washing machine. Clothes and textiles don't benefit from being left for too long before drying. If you use a tumble dryer, you will get wonderfully soft towels. Add a wash ball or a couple of tennis balls for maximum softness.

Maintain your towels' softness

You can also use it instead of fabric softener and, at the same time, soften the towels while protecting the environment. Another piece of advice is to use tennis balls when drying towels in the tumble dryer. They hit the towels blows during drying, which makes them airy and reduces the drying time – which is also good for the environment.
