Forma is a product line with heavy sculptural constructions in solid glass, with roots in the historic Bauhaus era, where forms such as cubes, spheres, and cylinders serve as the primary forms. Forma holds the same graphic strength in the form of massive geometric shapes that intersect. The strong language of form works with the negative space around the construction and thus how the brain reads the fusion of the forms. The bowl has a diameter of 21 cm and is made of pressed clear glass. The glass has a textured surface on every side, which gives a subtle contrast to the very strict geometric shapes. The bowl stands beautifully as a sculptural and decorative centrepiece or set together with other Forma products.
Holmegaard
Forma
Forma is a Holmegaard series of eye-catching and sculptural structures in solid glass. Their simple and stringent appearance bears strong references to Bauhaus - the functionalist rebellion against the excessively decorated, where all 'excessive' details gave way to cubes, cylinders and clean lines. This is the heritage that the Forma series continues to work with – but with its own personal touch.
The design duo Séché Studio, comprising Linnea Blæhr and Laura Bilde, designed the Forma series for Holmegaard. It includes vases, bowls and drinking glasses with a significant weight, tactile structure and high decorative value, both when in use and on display. The Forma series not only attracts attention, it retains it. There is something about the solid glass and the geometric shapes that spark reflection and act as a brain-teaser.
Forma was nominated for Design of the Year in the Design Awards 2021. This was partly due to the negative space created around the structure, which makes it difficult to decode the mould. Because that’s what really makes it interesting and sculptural to look at. The distinctive geographic shapes all have the same graphic strength and size, and cut into one another. And the strong design language works with the negative space around the structure, and thereby plays with how the brain reads the fusion of the shapes.
One of the other exciting things about Forma is that every single object balances art with decorative art, whether it’s the vase, bowls or glasses. You can easily display the objects as they are – naked and sculptural. But there is also beauty in adding to the shapes, such as adding flowers to the vase, filling the bowls with fruit or enjoying a drink from the glasses. No matter how you use them, they’re a beautiful and wild statement that goes with both the minimalist and the more expressive interior design.
