The many small windows that make up an orangery are reproduced in the series as hand-cut decorations and create the transparency and airiness that characterises an actual orangery. In the lighthouse and on the tealight holders the cut-out windows let the light shine through, while on the vase they provide a glimpse of the flowers' green stems. Every little cut is made by hand, just like the stylised birds in different shapes that adorn the outside. The overall look is almost like a modern lace, which ties nature and bird life together in Nordic tones.

Kähler has refined and further developed ceramic craftsmanship and glazes for more than 180 years. The glaze is created in complementary warm tones that accentuate the ceramic and the finely crafted details. You can see and feel the materials, and there is a clear handmade touch over Orangery, which the designers have deliberately worked to achieve in order to evoke the authentic intimacy that the rustic and imperfect can create.

The Orangery series is designed by Mette Bache and Barbara Bendix Becker, who are also the creators of Kähler's Urbania and Nobili series. Like many other artists and designers over the years, they have contributed to Kähler’s multifaceted universe of handmade design traditions and are masters in uniting classic ceramic craftsmanship with contemporary design to produce authentic pieces that are full of life.
