Chopping boards from Rosendahl.com
The chopping board is an everyday essential. Vegetables, bread, fruit and meat – we use it every day to chop, cut and slice to avoid damaging our worktop. In our selection, you’ll find both round and square wooden chopping boards. They come in different sizes, so you can easily choose the chopping board that suits your needs and personal taste.
Our chopping boards are designed to help you in the kitchen, which is why we've made sure that they're easy to clean by hand washing and also highly decorative, so you can leave them out in your kitchen. It's very popular to have your chopping board either on the kitchen counter or leaning up against the wall as part of the decor. Wood is the obvious material for a displayed board, as plastic does not have the same expression. Our wooden chopping boards are particularly robust and suitable for cutting surfaces, and they are also FSC®-certified. With a chopping board from our range, you get a long-lasting utensil that you can enjoy using for many years to come. Our wooden chopping boards have a stylish and Nordic expression that makes them ideal to show off as part of your decor.
Choose the right size
Chopping boards come in many different sizes. You can get really large, thick chopping boards that are well-suited for chopping up a lot of vegetables for a casserole. There are also medium-sized and very small chopping boards, which are most suitable for small cuts. When choosing the right chopping board, it’s a good idea to consider the size and what material you prefer. Plastic, wood and bamboo are some of the most common materials. It may be an advantage to have several chopping boards, possibly in several sizes, so you have some to choose from. We recommend having at least two, so that you have one for meat and one for vegetables and bread, as this reduces the risk of spreading bacteria. A cutting board with a juice groove is particularly suitable for handling raw and cooked meat.
The advantages of wooden chopping boards
Wood is a great material for many things. It's ideal for serving utensils, such as bowls and chopping boards. Wood is a hygienic material that makes life difficult for bacteria. Just make sure to keep it dry – i.e. dry the chopping board well after use before putting it back in the drawer or cupboard – and you will have the most hygienic choice over plastic. Wood is not only a beautiful natural material. If you use it and clean it with care, it can also help create a safe backdrop for food preparation in the kitchen. Wooden kitchen utensils are becoming more and more popular in the Nordic region as we choose natural and sustainable materials. Whatever your style of home decor, a wooden chopping board can fit into any kitchen while adding an exclusive and rustic look.
Cleaning your chopping board
Cutting boards are exposed daily to sharp knives, soil from vegetables and meat juices and can start to create an unhealthy environment if they're not cleaned properly. For hygienic reasons, many people have one cutting board for meat and another for bread and vegetables. If you use the same cutting board for everything, it's important to clean it thoroughly to avoid spreading bacteria, especially after raw meat has been on the board. Wooden cutting boards are generally not dishwasher safe as they can become frayed, cracked or dented. Instead, wash by hand with warm water and dish soap on all sides for a clean chopping board. Most plastic chopping boards can be washed in the dishwasher, but they can still trap odours if you have handled garlic, mackerel or chicken with curry marinade on it, for example. If necessary, wash by hand with lemon juice to remove the odour.
The wooden chopping board is the knife’s best friend
A good chopping board is essential in any kitchen, as it gives you a stable and practical surface for your sharp knife. A good chopping board lets you work faster with the knife, as it's pleasant to hold onto and it doesn't move when you work on it. A kitchen knife is incredibly sharp, which is why you need the best conditions when working in the kitchen. If you want to be on the safe side, you can always place a damp cloth under the board, so you are 100% sure that it will stay on the table. The best material for your knife is a wooden chopping board. Wood is so hard that it's not possible to cut too deeply. Over time, however, you will always find that there are grooves in the chopping board, but then you can sand it down a little with sandpaper and your board will be as good as new.
Use it as a serving board
Cutting boards do more than just cut. Investing in a wooden or bamboo chopping board also gives you a beautiful backdrop for serving small dishes. These could include small cheese boards, tapas, cold cuts, jam and much more. Only your imagination sets the limits here, and the natural wood will add a beautiful touch to your table setting – especially if you use white dinnerware as an elegant contrast. You can also use it on the breakfast or brunch table and serve bread or cold cuts on it with a bread knife next to it. This enables the family to take what they'd like themselves. It helps to create a relaxed and rustic look on the table when you can reach for it yourself.
Caring for your chopping board
If you have a wooden chopping board, you can enjoy it for many years with the right treatment. Among other things, it needs cleaning correctly and maintaining at regular intervals to keep it looking good. When you get your new wooden board home, we recommend giving it a little oil before you use it for the first time. You can use ordinary cooking oil, but the best oil for this purpose is linseed or paraffin oil, which gives better protection of the wood. Simply drizzle some oil onto a piece of kitchen roll and rub it into the chopping board. Leave for about 15 minutes and then wipe off with paper. Whenever the wood looks like it needs moisture, repeat the process and simply leave overnight before wiping off the excess oil with kitchen roll. Over time, you won't be able to avoid spots or scratches on the surface. These are only natural, but luckily there’s something you can do about them. You can remove any unsightly stains by scrubbing them with coarse salt. As mentioned earlier, scratches can be sanded off to give you a new, clean surface, but with a high-quality chopping board this will only be necessary after many years of daily use.
