Colore
The Colore series was inspired by Kähler’s proud craft traditions and the people who created bowls, mugs and plates in Kähler’s old pottery workshop in Kindhestegade in Næstved. Potters always add a personal touch to the material they process, and the traces and marks from the hands that made these creative designs are clearly visible on the unique Kähler objects. You can both see and sense that behind each object is someone who has made an effort, and it's this sense that inspired Colore's sensuous and tactile design.
The collection beautifully reinterprets the craftsmanship and decoration techniques that Kähler’s old pottery workshop developed and which became part of Kähler’s DNA. The soft shapes have been taken from the archives, the colours are classic and full of soul, and the tactile grooves are a reference to the creative process on the turning lathe.
The glaze used for Colore is also inspired by traditional craft techniques. In the 1930s, Kähler used glossy uranium- yellow glazes that produced the beautiful, dynamic and varied yellow-orange effect typical of many Kähler’s pieces from that time. Colore has been given a glaze with similar qualities, creating a vibrant surface that elegantly accentuates the tableware's sensuous details and shapes.
The Colore series consists of plates in two different sizes with a diameter of either 19 or 27 cm, multi-purpose bowls measuring 15 cm and mugs with handles, which can contain up to 330 ml. All of the pieces are made from beautiful stoneware in three tasteful colours – Berry Blue, Saffron Yellow and Sage Green. Each colour will enhance your meal in its own way with extra warmth and authentic presence.
The blue (Berry Blue) evokes the distinctive dark and almost waxy surface of blueberries. Even the yellow (Saffron Yellow) and green (Sage Green) pieces exude a sense of joy and sensuality, celebrating the intense flavour and fragrance you know from the exclusive spices saffron and sage. All pieces are decorated with a hand-painted brush stroke along the edge that visually frames their shape. You can clearly detect small variations in thickness in the brush strokes, reflecting that behind each piece is a dedicated person.
The series also includes a large ceramic table dish in yellow and green. These dishes differ from the other parts of the series by having a hand-painted spiral inside that mirrors the circular design on their grooved exterior. The large table dishes measure 34 cm in diameter and are perfect for serving large salads in for the whole family – or simply as a decorative and distinctive item to display in the home. The table dishes and bowls are reproductions of old pottery-turned moulds, and they too have a charming and eye-catching dot in the middle. The dot was inspired by an old Kähler tradition of always dripping a red dot in the middle of the spiral shape.
The entire Colore set is dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe, which means you can use it every day to bring a little extra life and beauty to your table. The tactile surfaces and charming colours make you stop and be present to both the design and the food. Colore is designed for those moments when you need to slow down, be presentand enjoy what you eat and drink in the company of those you love.
The Kähler story
A unique design adventure that began in 1839
The story of Kähler begins as early as 1839, when the Dutch potter Herman J. Kähler opens a small ceramics workshop in Næstved and turns the first Kähler vase. It marks the start of a unique design adventure that will one day resonate around the world. However, it is only when his son Herman A. Kähler takes over the famous workshop in 1875 that the ceramic adventure really begins.
