Reworked wooden animals

The new Reworked wooden animal is made of a wonderful mix of different types of wood, e.g. teak, walnut, oak, ash and maple – all surplus and residual wood that would otherwise have gone to waste. And if there is a type of wood that is not available as a residual wood, it is simply replaced by another type of wood. The production process is particularly challenging when the many pieces of wood need to be adapted and put together, and this places high demands on both the craftsmanship and the quality of the wood. 

With a focus on upcycling and the goal to use the resources that would otherwise have been wasted, Reworked wooden animals have a new, modern and sustainable dimension, so that they not only point back in time, but also forward. Design heritage, wood and innovation come together as one to make Reworked wooden animals a true collector’s item. The different types of wood add a unique personality and accentuate the animals’ iconic shapes in a new and surprising way. As an extra detail, they also have a 70th anniversary stamp and come in a special wooden anniversary box. However, this does not apply to the Reworked Monkey mini.

Reworked Monkey is available in four sizes: mini, small, medium and large. The small, medium and large Reworked monkeys are like the rest of the monkey family in teak produced by BRDR. KRÜGER, which connects smaller pieces of discarded wood in five different wood types to form a beautiful mosaic effect and adds a new sustainability dimension to Bojesen’s immortal classics.

The Reworked Bear is available in three sizes: Small, medium and large. These bears have been created by hand with the same love and care that has been applied since 1952, when the friendly open-armed Bear was born. The bear was originally inspired by a baby bear called Ursula from the zoo in Copenhagen, who was too small to live with the adult animals in the cage. Therefore, the head of the zoo kept the baby at home with him until it was old enough to live with the bigger bears. This sweet story is what inspired Bojesen to make the little bear figure.

The Reworked Elephant is available in three sizes: Mini, small and large. Reworked Elephant mini, Reworked Elephant small and Reworked Elephant large are all anniversary editions only produced in 2023. The large one comes in a limited number. They have all been created by hand with the same love and care that has been applied since 1953, when the wonderful and cheerful Elephant was born. Just like on the Monkey and Bear, you can move the legs and turn his head.

These responsibly produced Reworked wooden animals are both a celebration and a stand on responsible production, born from a principle of ensuring responsible craftsmanship and design. They are made using only the surplus wood available at the time, which means each Reworked wooden animal will therefore look different depending on which types of wood are left over on the day it was made. In other words, we cannot guarantee which wood types each Reworked wooden animal is made from. But we can guarantee that each Anniversary wooden animal will be even more unique than the original classic, if possible.
