A Living Classic in Natural Materials

Kay Bojesen's iconic monkeys and other wooden products are crafted from FSC®-certified wood and wood from other controlled sources (FSC® C140259), treated with great respect for nature’s own materials. Since wood is a living material, it adapts to its surroundings and develops unique characteristics over time – a charming and integral part of these products' character. For example, the paws of your monkey may occasionally feel loose or even fall off, but this is a natural process. If this happens, simply immerse the affected part in water for a minute and put it back in place. This often causes the wood to expand, ensuring the part fits securely again.

How to care for your wooden products

Protect from sun and heat
Direct sunlight and heat sources, such as wood stoves, can dry out the wood, alter its colour, and cause cracks. Wood thrives best in stable conditions.

Avoid the dishwasher
Wooden products last longer when lightly wiped clean and should never be placed in the dishwasher.

Maintenance tips for different types of wooden products

Oiled products
The products are treated with rapeseed oil, giving them a protective and natural sheen. Newly oiled products may feel slightly "moist," but over time, the excess oil is absorbed into the wood. In the meantime, consider where you place your product, as the oil may rub off. Oiling enhances the wood’s glow and deepens its tone. Wipe with a dry or tightly wrung-out cloth.

Untreated products
Untreated wood has a natural finish that develops a beautiful patina over time. Simply wipe with a dry cloth, noting that the colour may change with the use of oil or soapy water.

Painted products
Preserve the colour and paint by avoiding exposure to sunlight, heat sources, and humid environments. Wipe with a dry or tightly wrung-out cloth to maintain the product's fresh appearance.
