The Nightingale, the Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweeper are already on the shelves of the museum shop in Odense and at rosendahl.com. They are now joined by Sandman, whom you will also find in your local design shop. Wearing a light blue nightshirt, dark blue pyjama trousers, slippers and a little hat, the Sandman stands happy and smiling with his two umbrellas. The colours are tranquil and limited to cool shades of blue. Sandman has been turned in FSC® certified beech. He has been made by hand with the great precision and care that are the hallmarks of Kay Bojesen's wooden figurines. The shape is based on the original Ole figurines from Kay Bojesen's archive – simple and minimalist, but full of life and soul – so that Ole is given a feeling of magic and adventure that reflects the spirit of Kay Bojesen and the storytelling he succeeded in creating in his imaginative figurines. Please note that the Sandman is not created with adjustable parts such as arms or legs. We therefore recommend mounting the umbrella with care and to mount both umbrellas to achieve the optimum balance.

Kay Bojesen
Wooden figures
The series of wooden figures is based on Kay Bojesen’s basic idea that toys should be simple, solid and inspire play. Kay Bojesen also worked based on the philosophy that wood only comes to life when it gets a story – a philosophy that was consistent with all his figures. That foundation and Kay Bojesen’s unique talent has turned his magical world of Wooden FIgures into beloved classics and design icons that will last for decades to come.
Kay Bojesen is one of the big Danish designers. He was able to turn wood into original stories like no other. He had a knack for bringing the wood to life. Or as he put it: “Making the line smile”. And the lines certainly smile in each of the Wooden Animals – which have all become iconic.
