Good wines should be enjoyed from a Holmegaard wine glass

Holmegaard’s wine glasses come in a variety of series that together comprise a large selection of beautiful glasses. This way you can make a collection with matching red wine glasses, white wine glasses, champagne glasses, tumblers and more. Be inspired, for example, by the Cabernet Lines series, designed to provide the best possible wine experience and with a focus on unfolding the wine’s flavours and aromas. The wine glasses are also decorated with beautiful lines that follow the glass all the way round and play with the optics.

There are several things to consider when buying wine glasses. First and foremost, you need to find out what style you like. Perhaps you are already collecting a certain glass series of from Holmegaard, where it would be obvious to add the wine glasses next. Do you prefer classic and traditional wine glasses, or quirky and decorative wine glasses? Once you've decided which is your preferred style of wine glass, it's time to look at the different glasses available in that style. Most people start by buying red wine and white wine glasses, as these tend to be the wines that most people drink.

The white wine glasses are usually smaller than the red wine glasses. This is because there is a rule of thumb that small wines are best in small wine glasses and large wines are best in large wine glasses. This rule of thumb is quite general, but it can be used in the vast majority of situations when you need to find the best wine glass. If you pour a fine and delicate white wine into a huge red wine glass, the wine’s aroma can disappear completely. That's why white wine glasses are smaller than red wine glasses. On the other hand, serving in a small white wine glass means that not much fragrance is released. That's why red wine glasses are larger than white wine glasses. The large glass simply gives the more powerful wine a larger surface from which the aroma can rise, and the smaller glass retains the aroma better in the fine flavour.

To take the best care of your newly acquired wine glasses, wash them gently to prevent them from breaking. In fact, all wine glasses can be put in the dishwasher, which is probably good news for everyone who has one. The decisive factor for the best possible dishwashing is actually the temperature at which they are washed. Please take care not to wash your glasses at too high a temperature. Preferably use the dishwasher’s glass programme, if it has one. In addition, make sure that the dishwasher is filled with rinse aid and salt and that it is correctly adjusted to the water hardness. Finally, proper drying is also essential to achieve a good result without any deposits of limescale on the glasses.

Your wine glasses are now ready to be placed in the kitchen cupboard or display cabinet. Opinions may vary as to how you should store your wine glasses in your cupboards, but the correct answer is that they should stand on their feet – just like you put them on the dinner table. They should not be upside down, which many people think is the correct way, but there is no need to turn the glass upside down. Especially if they are already in a cupboard that protects against dust. The downside of placing the wine glasses upside down is that they absorb the smell of the cabinet shelves. This odour can be more or less unpleasant depending on the surface. Wine glasses fare best with air around them.

Serve your wine in correct wine glasses from Holmegaard and let the wine’s full potential shine.
