Decorate your home with iconic and beautiful Holmegaard glass bowls
Holmegaard’s glass bowls are incredibly beautiful and have become iconic in Danish design over the years. Over time, they have also become ideal for use as part of the decor or for serving fruits, for example. For example, decorate your home with the Provence glass bowl from Holmegaard. This Holmegaard glass bowl is made of mouth-blown glass, and has gradually become a classic in Danish design and glass art. In fact, it has become a definite object d'art in many homes. As with the Provence bowl, because many of the bowls are mouth-blown, small air bubbles will appear in them, which only add charm and make them completely unique.
Holmegaard produces both mouth-blown and machine-blown glass using the latest and most advanced production methods. Whether it’s mouth-blown or machine-made glass, Holmegaard always represents high quality and elegant design. Each piece of mouth-blown glass is unique and handmade by the glassblower, who carefully blows the right amount of air through the narrow pipe. Air bubbles in the glass are therefore inevitable and are part of the charm of mouth-blown glass.
The mouth-blown glass from Holmegaard is recognised by the Nordic Ecolabel, which is also found on the beautiful glass bowls.
The designer behind the bowl
The designer behind the Provence glass bowl is Per Lütken, who was one of Holmegaard’s most advanced glass blowers. He has breathed life into more than 3000 different glass designs, many of which have become classics. One of them is the Provence bowl he designed in 1955. He undoubtedly created a classic in Danish glass art. Per Lütken’s love of sweeping, feminine shapes is evident in the bowl’s design, which comes in soft and curved shapes. The bowl is free-formed by hand, which in itself is impressive. Each Provence Bowl is unique and blown without using a mould. Here, it is the glass blower’s ability to carefully control the glass bubble and allow the steam from the floor to blow up the glass mass, which creates the finished result of the product. The bowls therefore vary in shape and size, which makes them completely unique. And in fact, the manufacturing process of the Provence Bowl is a unique experience in itself.
The story behind Holmegaard
Most people probably associate Holmegaard with being a glassworks, but few are aware that Holmegaard is based on a long and proud tradition of glass production that goes all the way back to 1825. Today Holmegaard is a Danish design icon and one of the most recognised names in Scandinavian craftsmanship traditions. And their heritage is more than a tale of quality craftsmanship through time. Holmegaard builds on the legacy of a remarkable woman who must be said to have been ahead of her time, Countess Henriette Danneskiold-Samsøe. The Countess founded a glassworks at Holmegaard marsh, as it was her late husband’s greatest dream to construct a glassworks there. But that's not the only thing that made her so remarkable. She also managed to turn it into an artistic and aesthetic world of design that is still relevant today – almost 200 years later. It’s quite a feat.
