Hammershøi Poppy
Hammershøi Poppy is a modern floral service with the captivating beauty of the poppy. The poppy is a flower that contains both great strength and fragility. We see it everywhere in the Danish countryside, where it bravely withstands wind and the elements, but as soon as it is picked, it becomes sensitive and loses its leaves after a short time.
With its feminine table-setting appeal and roots in today’s floral megatrend, Hammershøi Poppy immediately attracted many fans – and the series is continuously expanded with several pieces specially designed for get-togethers with style: A teapot, teacup with saucer, plain-coloured mugs, dishes, vases, a candlestick and a tablecloth – and later eggcups, mini vases and a bonbonniere in the same poetic theme of delicate rose poppies full of life and movement, just like the rest of the dinner service.
The motifs in the Hammershøi Poppy series are created by artist Rikke Jacobsen, who has worked with the beauty of the poppy and actively used everything from the stem, the first buds to the flower in full bloom. With fantastic detail, the poppies wrap around the white Hammershøi dinner service, creating a beautiful contrast to the porcelain’s simple and graphic design.
Hammershøi Poppy, however, not only radiates beauty, but also quality and craftsmanship. 'The canvas’ for the pale rose poppies is the classic Hammershøi porcelain designed by Hans-Christian Bauer – and this combination gives you a wealth of possibilities. You can turn the table into a lovely flower field, or you can combine Poppy with the classic white Hammershøi service for a more subtle look.
Whatever you choose, you have the opportunity to make it both personal and poetic: Thanks to the asymmetrical arrangement of the motifs, you can turn and twist the individual pieces in countless ways, so that the green stems twist over the table and the dinner service blossoms like never before, for the benefit of you and your guests. You can also try playing with the way plates, bowls and cups are placed – depending on how you twist and turn them and turn them, you can create very different looks and styles.
In her work with the delicate rose variant of the poppy, Rikke Jacobsen has been particularly focused on the flower’s different stages of beauty: The strong, green stem, first bud and flower in full bloom with its pod and petals gathered in a rosette. You can feel her fascination with the flower in every brush stroke, and the result is the unique blend of meticulous naturalism and delicate poetry found in Hammershøi Poppy.

Rikke Jacobsen
Rikke Jacobsen is a Danish contemporary artist and ceramic designer who, with a special naturalistic and poetic touch, masters the simplicity of details in her often experimental and modern design. She has a strong sense of Scandinavian design tradition and identity, and has expanded her skills as a ceramic designer with a degree in design from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London.
Rikke Jacobsen is particularly known for her watercolour decorations. Over the years, she has beautifully unfolded and developed the Scandinavian identity in her many illustrations, inspired by both botanical and delicate, divergent compositions.
For example, you will come across Rikke Jacobsen’s distinctive stroke in the beautiful decoration of Hammershøi Poppy, where she has chosen the delicate pink poppy in her watercolours to emphasise the flower’s own poetry, fragility and grace. While working on this dinner service, she explored the different stages the poppy's beauty – the stem, the first bud and the flower in full bloom - and decided that there was something classic, elegant and Nordic about it – just like the Hammershøi service, which serves as the canvas.
It is also Rikke Jacobsen’s design that can be found in the Hammershøi Christmas series, where she tells small stories with cones, angels, walnuts, birds, cones and stars. And Kähler’s magical Easter collection, Hammershøi Easter, is also decorated with newly sprung branches and traditional Easter symbols, hand-painted by Rikke Jacobsen and transferred to the porcelain.
