Dorthe Helm
Dorthe Helm is a Danish designer who has primarily worked with textiles and accessories for interior design, but has also recently started making ceramic designs. She graduated from the Kolding School of Design and today runs the creative design studio called Waiting for Monday together with Jasmine Watson.
In her work, Dorthe Helm focuses on each individual detail of the design, as well as how colours and materials are combined to create a graphic and vibrant look. Although she is particularly known for textile design, and has many years of experience, including from Kvadrat and Gran Living, she has also helped to define a new design strategy for lamps in Fritz Hansen’s furniture collection. Moreover, in collaboration with Kähler on the Globo candlestick, she fully proves that she is also au fait with new and modern ceramic designs. Through the Globo range, Dorthe Helm has convincingly created yet another addition to Kähler’s beautiful and unique candlesticks.
With their gentle, rounded shapes and muted earthy tones, Globo has a broad appeal and provides a warm and pleasant input into most homes. The expressive and innovative Globo candlestick is made according to Kähler’s centuries-old design traditions in the harmonious and calm earth tones of granite grey and terracotta, which evoke the warm colour scale of fallen leaves and sculptural pebbles on the Nordic autumn forest floor. The Dorthe Helms Globo range from Kähler is therefore a warm and strong statement which, with its stringent and tight shape, matches both a more simple and colourful interior design.
