Based on a desire to bring Kähler's craftsmanship legacy and classic techniques in the present, Meyer Lavigne took the shapes of the vases from the archives and playfully created an authentic, artistic expression with even more depth and life thanks to the deep, rich glazes. Canvas is all about the brushstrokes and the intention behind them. You can clearly see that the vases are painted by hand, which lends an expressive, vibrant look. In the decorations, you can sense the designer's artistic understanding and intuitive movements that make each hand-painted vase a small work of art in itself. The vase has wide, horizontal brushstrokes and measures 20 cm. Almost like a patchwork, the distinctive, oversized stripes create a simple but strong look. The colour palette features shades of pink, which, combined with a light brown colour, add a beautiful harmony to the expression.

Expressive and unique brush strokes

Canvas

Anything can happen on a clean canvas. All possibilities are open, nothing is fixed and as soon as the brush is placed on the canvas, it immortalises the artist’s energy at that very moment.

With Kähler’s new Canvas series, the canvases are round and voluminous ceramic vases. The artists are Kristine Meyer and Sabine Lavigne, who design under the name Meyer Lavigne. With a desire to bring Kähler’s heritage of craftsmanship and classic techniques into the present, they have taken the shape of the vases from the archives and experimented with creating an authentic and artistic expression that is given extra depth and life with deep and rich glazes.

The Kähler story

A unique design adventure that began in 1839

The story of Kähler begins as early as 1839, when the Dutch potter Herman J. Kähler opens a small ceramics workshop in Næstved and turns the first Kähler vase. It marks the start of a unique design adventure that will one day resonate around the world. However, it is only when his son Herman A. Kähler takes over the famous workshop in 1875 that the ceramic adventure really begins.
