Nature’s wonders and authentic craftsmanship beautifully combined. With the Kantarel series from Kähler, you bring the calm and beauty of nature into your home with a sculptural and sensory design inspired by the soft forms and colours of the chanterelle mushroom. Here, classic craftsmanship is united with a longing for the freedom of nature, transformed into poetic ceramics shaped by tradition. Kantarel is designed by Thora Finnsdottir, who has created a collection of lively and expressive objects centred around the chanterelle’s distinctive shape. Inspiration is drawn from both the forest floor and the coastline, where water, plants, mushrooms and gentle hues lay the groundwork for both form and colour. Authentic and vibrant. A poetic tribute to joyful mushroom foraging, the wonders of the forest and its rich pantry, and to the simple pleasures of life. The small tray in the series measures 14 x 14.5 cm and comes in a subtle green – and, just like so often in nature, it is not perfectly round. With Kantarel, the sculptural and the functional merge in a single expression that invites nature into your home, and in the small tray, a new function emerges – the chanterelle’s iconic cap reimagined in ceramic as a letter tray laid out on the table, ready to be filled with little treasures and everyday joys. Each piece in the Kantarel series is made from hand-cast ceramic, gently glazed in soft tones inspired by nature’s own colours, from the sands of the beach to the green shades of the forest. The expression is lively yet balanced. Naturally shaped, yet with a sense of calm form. With its soft and tactile presence, Kantarel creates a new connection between contemporary design and the aesthetics of nature. It is a tribute, almost a longing, for the tranquil life found on the forest floor. This is design that moves and contains. A poetic design language that sparks curiosity and creates space for silence, reflection and sensory experiences, born of a unique encounter between the artistic and the functional. Because just like nature, Kähler is also shaped by tradition.

The Kähler story
A unique design adventure that began in 1839
The story of Kähler begins as early as 1839, when the Dutch potter Herman J. Kähler opens a small ceramics workshop in Næstved and turns the first Kähler vase. It marks the start of a unique design adventure that will one day resonate around the world. However, it is only when his son Herman A. Kähler takes over the famous workshop in 1875 that the ceramic adventure really begins.
