Find the perfect graduation gift

If you've been invited to a graduation party, it's customary to bring a gift with you for the graduating student. Luckily, you’ve come to the right place. Here at Rosendahl.com, we have handpicked the best graduation gifts, so you can congratulate the young person and wish them all the luck in their future endeavours.

What is the perfect graduation gift?

Spring is upon us and graduating students have already begun the traditional celebrations to mark their final exam with singing, parties and music. Graduation caps in different colours are abound, accompanied by parties to celebrate the young people before they continue their studies, take a gap year or go to folk high school.

Do you know someone who is graduating this year? Naturally, this should be celebrated with a thoughtful gift. The gift you give depends on the relationship, because there is a difference between whether it's your own son or daughter who has graduated or the neighbour’s child or a classmate. Gifts from parents and close family members tend to be bigger, while those from friends and distant relatives can be much smaller, such as chocolate, flowers or a bottle of wine. Whatever you give, the gift will symbolise the pride you feel in the graduate's achievement and that you would like to take part in the celebrations.

Remember to wrap the gift nicely with some special wrapping paper and a lovely bow to give it the finishing touch. A personal card, where you write a special greeting and some kind words, is bound to be appreciated and will ensure that they remember the gift you've got them.

What should you consider?

Graduating from high school is an achievement. Two or three years of studies at upper secondary school are finally over, and now the big wide world awaits. But first, summer and all its parties have to be enjoyed before the student embarks on the rest of their life.

Finding a great graduation gift depends a lot on the young graduate. Perhaps you’ve been lucky enough to get a wish list? If not, ask about the person’s interests and thoughts about the future, so you get an idea of what you could buy. Many young people of this age have started to know what they want to do with their lives, and many will have some thoughts about what kind of gift they might like. Others, however, are busy living their lives and don't know what they will be doing in a month. Some may want to work a year while they consider the next step. Others want to travel. No matter who you’re buying a graduation gift for, don't despair. We have something for every taste and every graduate.

When the student is taking their final exam, it's customary for family and close friends to wait outside the exam room ready to congratulate with flags and champagne. Once they have got their grade, the cap is placed on the head and then everyone claps and says congratulations. In Denmark, it's a tradition to bring a red rose to the student, while gifts are not given until the graduation party.

What should the gift cost?

What the gift should cost is very individual. First and foremost, it’s about your relationship with the student, and to a certain extent also whether you’re going to the actual graduation party or just dropping by with a small gift. If you're going to the graduation party, you would typically spend around DKK 300-500 on the gift, perhaps a little more if the person is close to you. Our selection of gift ideas includes gifts in all price ranges. It's such a thrill to finally get to wear your graduation cap, so your proud graduate will mostly just be happy that you've thought about them. It really is the thought that counts when you give someone a gift.

Graduating wishes

Are you the one who is graduating soon, and still missing some good ideas for what you want? Then you’ve come to the right place. On this page, you'll find ideas for graduation gifts suitable for both boys and girls, both practical and more personal. So take a look around and get inspiration for what you could wish for on the big day. We would also like to congratulate you here at Rosendahl.com.

The practical gift

For many, graduation also marks the time to finally leave home, for example to go to university. This means that they'll need to buy new furniture, kitchen items and homeware for the college dorm or apartment. In other words – we have a lot of great gift ideas for you.

One practical gift for a graduate could be kitchen utensils. You won't get far without kitchenware, and it’s something everyone needs. Regardless of whether the graduate is moving into a shared apartment, dorm or their own place, they'll need a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment. The basics are tea towels, pot holders and bowls. Then there's dinnerware, glasses and cutlery. A couple of nice plates, a set of cutlery and some drinking glasses may be just what the young person needs. Perhaps they already have an idea of what brand the dinnerware should be from, or maybe they've already started collecting pieces in that series. Dinnerware can be a personal thing, which is why it's worth asking if they would prefer a particular range of crockery before you buy the gift. You can also buy decorative interior design pieces that will help to make their new home cosy and personal.

The personal gift for the graduate

If you have a close relationship with the young graduate, you might like to give them a personal gift. A personal gift doesn't mean you have to get creative with the craft supplies, however. What we mean is that you familiarise yourself with what the person likes and is interested in, and select your gift based on that. When the gift is personal, it shows that you know the person and that you have put some thought into what to get them. This is something that they will be grateful for, regardless of what you come up with.

The personal graduation gift is individual and depends entirely on their interests. And here is where a gift basket can be a fantastic idea. With a gift basket, you can put together your very own gift that's packed with personality. Does your special someone like to barbecue? Make a small basket with a grilling apron, a pair of BBQ gloves and some tongs. Or do they love their morning tea? Then you can make a basket with a beautiful tea set, for example our Tse series, which contains a teapot and mugs in a beautiful, Asian-inspired design. Add some of their favourite tea bags and you’re sure to put a smile on their lips.

Graduation gifts for him

Graduation is a happy time, and we're certain that you'll want to find a good graduation gift for him that he will love. When it comes to finding the right gift, it’s worth considering his needs and interests. Is he leaving home soon? Then he’ll need home decor pieces, kitchenware and bedding. You can also use his interests as a starting point and take it from there. Does he have a taste for coffee? Then you can give him a cafetiere and a couple of coffee cups. You can also give him a to-go mug to take with him on the morning commute. That's something most people will appreciate. Alternatively, you can give him a pair of salt and pepper mills in a quality design that he can enjoy for many years to come. If you find a gift that you think suits his personality, it's sure to be perfect.

Graduation gifts for her

Interior design is a popular interest among the young, so giving her something nice and decorative for the home is a safe choice. Perhaps she already has a favourite brand? Otherwise, she's almost guaranteed to appreciate a decorative vase from Holmegaard, Kähler or Lyngby Porcelæn. She's certain to need it right away with all the flowers she gets to celebrate her graduation.

You could also give her a couple of tealight holders that she can place on the shelf or on the window sill. A lantern or LED lamp would also help to make her new home extra cosy. If she likes porcelain, she’s sure to appreciate a beautiful bonbonniere where she can store her jewellery or favourite sweets in style. A bonbonniere is a fantastic little gift that she can enjoy for many years, which can be used for a multitude of different things.
