Karen Blixen
Karen Blixen’s writing is among the most legendary of the 20th century. The world-famous Danish author was decadent and driven by a great interest in anything that was authentic and natural – and this is where Ole Kortzau finds his inspiration for each year’s Christmas collection, which is part of Karen Blixen’s Christmas.
The motifs are all a declaration of love for the traditional Christmas; the Christmas that Ole Kortzau remembers from his childhood. And in true Karen Blixen spirit, the different hanging decorations from Rosendahl’s Karen Blixen Christmas each tell a story about the symbolism and archetypes of Christmas. The collection includes small and large figures for hanging on the Christmas tree, from the ceiling, in the window or for using as table decorations.

Ole Kortzau has been designing and interpreting the Nordic Christmas traditions for Rosendahl since 2007. And year after year, the classic symbols of Christmas come in a new and evocative version with Kortzau’s graphic line. The characteristic design is available as both gold-plated and silver-plated, with a wealth of uses, from traditional decorations on branches, in vases, on the Christmas tree – or for place cards, on Christmas gifts and as a beautiful detail around a linen napkin on the Christmas table.
The Karen Blixen’s Christmas collection is the very essence of care and attention to detail, and to such an extent that each individual decoration is like a small work of art in itself, coated with genuine silver and gold. According to Kortzau, Karen Blixen was a master of the art of narrative and was able to conjure different scenes like no other. And he too tells a story and sets a scene with his Christmas decorations – but without words.

Yet, like many others, she associates Christmas with a time where everything is a little more sumptuous, sensual and joyful.
It brings out an elegant, personal and adventurous element in Zarah Voigt’s Christmas decorations, which she designs for Rosendahl year after year. Like Zarah's jewellery, the Christmas ornaments are filled with striking contrasts that make the Christmas decorations both edgy and sophisticated. She also takes the architectural lines from her jewellery collections, which give her hanging decorations a shape full of facets and surprises.
Working with the Karen Blixen Christmas collection, gives Zarah Voigt a unique opportunity to pay tribute to the mythology and magic of the famous author, while also delving into her own childhood memories of Christmas, a time when she made paper decorations every year with her father, who had a love of white, cut ice crystals. And it is precisely these decorations that inspired Zarah to create the motif for her own decorations in metal.
The Christmas decorations for Rosendahl are available in both gold-plated and silver-plated versions. And just like Zarah’s beautiful and distinctive jewellery, they have a razor-sharp look and are especially appealing to those who want to turn up the Christmas spirit a little with graphic elements - whether on the tree, a branch or an advent wreath, as display decorations throughout December or table decorations.
