When Per Lütken designed the Provence Bowl in 1955, he also created a classic in Danish glass art. The Provence bowl is relaunched in a special edition under the category Holmegaard Archives. In line with its glass traditions, Holmegaard creates an exclusive production of the Provence bowl, which is mouth-blown at the original glassworks in Næstved in collaboration with Holmegaard Værk. The bowl has a diameter of 19 cm, it is mouth-blown glass and freely shaped by hand. It comes in a vibrant pink color that adds a fresh and bold candy color to the iconic Provence shape. Use it as a small piece of luxury in everyday life, for example for jewellery and serving small snacks, or exhibit it as curated glass art in your home. Each Provence bowl is unique and blown without the use of a mold. Here is the glassblower's ability to carefully control the glass bubble and let the steam from the floor blow the glass mass up to the finished product. The bowls therefore vary in shape and size. The manufacturing process of the Provence bowl is in itself a complete unique experience.

When Per Lütken designed the Provence Bowl in 1955, he also created a classic in Danish glass art. It is free-formed by hand without the use of wooden or metal moulds, and to this day it is still difficult to recreate the form – a challenge that only a few glassmakers in the world are able to master. Per Lütken was a world-class glass designer with great respect for craftsmanship and he also had a unique talent for capturing feelings and moods in glass, and the Provence Bowl is a great example of this.

Per Lütken was able to breathe life into more than 3,000 glass designs, many of which, like the Provence Bowl, have become classics with a high collector’s value. The Provence bowl is therefore the first Holmegaard classic to be relaunched in a special edition under the Holmegaard Archives' mouth-blown category at the original glassworks in Næstved in collaboration with Holmegaard Værk.

The bowl comes in two sizes and in pink, lavender or confetti, all which honour the southern French name and the current swirl trend. For many years, the Provence Bowls have been difficult to collect, and special colours in particular have been sought after, but now it is no longer only the lucky ones at auctions or happy heirs who are able to get their hands on a Provence Bowl in a beautiful and different colour.

The rose colour gives the Provence bowl a feminine and delicate look. The soft shapes and soft colour radiate a deep tranquillity and encapsulate the state of contemplation needed to work with a vivid material such as glass. You can almost sense the depth of the breath that has breathed life into the bowl, and the presence and concentration the bowl is created with.

The new bowl is also available in a beautiful lavender colour that refers to the warm and colourful landscape from Provence. Use it as a small piece of luxury in your everyday life, such as for jewellery and for serving small snacks, or display it as curated glass art in your home.

The third colour variant is confetti, which playfully and brightly reflects Holmegaard’s creativity, ingenuity and diverse colour palette. Holmegaard’s glassblowers are known for their curiosity and desire to explore the possibilities of the glass, and the confetti bowl exudes the artistic energy that is part of Holmegaard’s DNA.

The confetti effect is created by applying small, coloured pieces of glass by hand, which lie differently in each piece of glass. This means that each bowl becomes completely unique, and the confetti effect will therefore vary. The glass pieces blend beautifully into the rose-coloured glass mass, creating abstract lines that follow the shape of the Provence bowl and give it a playful and artistic appearance.

The Holmegaard Archives series pays tribute to Danish glass art and Holmegaard’s colourful history through a number of special productions, where Holmegaard, in line with its long and proud craftsmanship traditions, is reproducing several of the major archive classics as special editions in new and modern colours. Each of the special editions of Holmegaard Archives exudes history – but in a modern context – and together they are a perfect example of how Holmegaard creates unique reflections of past, present and future in glass.
