Improved and impatient. Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s world-famous fairy tale about The Little Mermaid, incorporated in her usual titillating and provocative ceramic art, artist Louise Hindsgavl once again in collaboration with Kähler has created a figurative kick-start for life’s often somewhat difficult conversations. Her new figurines in glazed ceramics are called The Ambitious. Here, she tells the story of a mermaid who tries out new ways to make her dreams come true. Being an enterprising and inventive young woman, she has tried her hand at legs instead of tail. And she is ready to take it one step further. Maybe an extra breast is needed to charm the prince? In her phenomenal design, Louise Hindsgavl is with the flicking movement of the tail subtly expressing the impatience that the mermaid must feel in her efforts to capture the prince. The Ambitious figurines are 20-cm tall and come in grey, blue and this purple variant. All exude Kähler’s authenticity and handmade design traditions, while at the same time, with their challenging form of expression, they prepare the ground for the conversation about what Louise Hindsgavl calls ‘the things we owe each other to talk about, but often don’t dare to start’. With The Ambitious, she takes us into a world of impatience and possibilities and makes her figurative work a spectacle – up for discussion. As an artist, she claims the responsibility, undertakes the risk of starting the difficult conversation. In addition to creating modern art and design for your home, Louise Hindsgavl with The Ambitious figurines would like to scratch the surface of our culture and create the platform for a discussion. For example, about what lies in our striving and how far we will go to fulfil our ambitions. The Ambitious are only sold at the Holmegaard Værk and at Rosendahl.com. Only 200 pcs are produced. of each color and they are all numbered. We cannot disclose what number your figure has/sheep.

The Kähler story
A unique design adventure that began in 1839
The story of Kähler begins as early as 1839, when the Dutch potter Herman J. Kähler opens a small ceramics workshop in Næstved and turns the first Kähler vase. It marks the start of a unique design adventure that will one day resonate around the world. However, it is only when his son Herman A. Kähler takes over the famous workshop in 1875 that the ceramic adventure really begins.
