Design With Light

The 'Design with Light' lanterns come in a small version of 16.5 cm, a medium lantern of 25 cm and a large lantern of 29 cm in grey, olive green and clear glass – the clear glass version also comes as an extra large floor lantern of 45 cm. The different colours and sizes look particularly beautiful when combined, as two or more lanterns placed together always create a cosy atmosphere with their mix of sizes and colours. All of them are designed based on Holmegaard’s original craftsmanship traditions and create beautiful reflections in the glow of candlelight.

The olive green and grey colours are classic and subdued, giving an elegant and natural look to your home, both indoors and outdoors. Light reflected through the coloured glass gives a warm and cosy glow, and in both the clear and coloured lanterns, you can clearly sense the designer Maria Berntsen’s love of glass as a material and her ability to catch and reflect light.

All lanterns are made from mouth-blown glass, and the round opening is handmade by our experienced craftsmen and makes each lantern unique. The top of the lanterns are finished with a black lid to prevent the flame from flickering. The lid has a hole in the middle so that oxygen still reaches the flame. Use the lanterns on the long, light summer evenings on the terrace, in the window, on the floor or put the smaller one on the table. Design with Light is designed for both outdoor living and indoor cosiness – but should be stored inside for the sake of the leather handle.

As well as the iconic lantern, the Design with Light series also includes other beautiful light sources such as pots, tealight holders, block candlesticks and chamber candlesticks. Characteristic to each piece of mouth-blown glass in the series is that it is unique and handmade by the glass blower, who carefully blows the right amount of air through the narrow pipe. Air bubbles in the glass are therefore inevitable and are part of the charm of mouth-blown glass.
